Hurricane Irma: Recovery Begins

September 15, 2017 By Yasumori Jinno, CargoSmart Global Vessel Voyage Monitoring Center

The immense Hurricane Irma reached Florida on Sunday, September 10. All Florida ports closed over the weekend. As of Wednesday, September 13, each of the Florida container ports as well as the ports of Savannah, Charleston, and Freeport resumed operations. While the ports have opened, our data reveals container vessels, with an original ETA from September 9-14, skipped their scheduled ports 17 times due to the storm and that 12 container vessels are waiting outside of Savannah.
